Is your hard drive making strange noises?

By Joel Rivera, November 12, 2008

If yes prepare to back up your important files because clicking sounds is an indication of your hard drive is going to fail soon. One of the reasons this problem occurs is because the hard drive was not maintenance correctly.

hard drive flames Is your hard drive making strange noises?

To avoid this problem you have to provide adequate maintenance to the hard drive, and when I say maintenance I mean by cleaning old temporary files, removing unwanted programs, defragmenting the hard drive, etc…

Here is a list a common maintenance done to hard disks:

  1. Disk Cleanup – Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Cleanup
  2. Disk Defragment - Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Defragment
  3. Internet Explorer – Tools, Internet Options, Under General Tab, Browsing History, Delete, Once the browser history pop up click on “Delete all”
  4. Remove unwanted programs – Start, Control Panel, Click on Uninstall a Program
Some considerations to take:
-Disk cleanup has to be done at least once a week
-Disk Defragment can be done once a month
-Internet Explorer has to be cleaned after every Internet session
-Removal of unwanted programs has to be done periodically to keep hard disk performance optimal
The real key here is Disk Cleaning and Disk Defragmentation, once your computer is cleaned of junk the defragmenter will organize the files in order to make the response faster when a file is requested.
