Get your Google email via Microsoft Outlook

Tired of going the Google mail homepage to check your messages? Well I have good news for you, did you know you can configure Outlook Express or Microsoft Outlook to download your Gmail messages? Since I been using Google email service I had always use Microsoft Outlook as my default client to download my Gmail messages.

Once good feature Google offers is the option to keep a copy of your email messages stored in Google servers, this is good because you will never know when your computer will crash. Below are the steps to configure your email client.

Outlook Express:

  1. Enable POP in your email account – Click here to learn how
  2. Click Tools > and select Account
  3. Click Add and then click Mail
  4. Enter your name in “Display Name” and click Next
  5. Enter you full Gmail account (user@gmail.com) in the Email address: field and click Next
  6. Enter POP.GMAIL.COM in the Incoming Mail
  7. Enter SMTP.GMAIL.COM in the Outgoing Mail and click Next
  8. In the Account name: enter your full Gmail email
  9. In the Password field enter your Gmail password and click Next
  10. Click finish
  11. Now click on pop.gmail.com email and on the right hand click Properties
  12. Click on Advanced Tab, Outgoing Mail (STMP) insert in the box (465) and check under Outgoing Mail “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)
  13. In the Incoming Mail (POP3) insert in the box (995) and check under Incoming Mail “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)
  14. Now click on the Servers Tab and under Outgoing Mail Server check “My server requires authentication
  15. And click OK

Microsoft Outlook Setup:

  1. Click on Tools > Account Settings
  2. Under the E-Mail Tab click New
  3. Make sure Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP is selected and click Next
  4. In the Name field type your full name
  5. In the Email Address field type your full Gmail account (user@gmail.com)
  6. Type your Gmail account password twice and click Next
  7. Once you clicked Next, Microsoft Outlook will configure your account automatically. Click Next or OK

  1. One of the things I love about doing this is that it allow Outlook to be used as a the single tool for managing all of our time, communication and information. Outlook is a much better time and workload management tool than gmail which is simply an email client.
