Disabling an onboard video card is not always possible because most motherboard manufacturers doesn’t inlcude a jumper to disable it. If you are buying a new video card and want to install it make sure you have an available AGP (Accelarated Graphic Interface – The color brown slot) in case your motherboard doesn’t have an AGP you can always purchase a PCI video card.
Since most motherboards with intergrated video card doesn’t include a jumper to disable it, you can do then the alternative instead by removing its driver before installing the new card. Follow the steps to remove the old video card driver.
Step 1: Click Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware, and Device Manager locate the video card name under Display Adapters select the video card and then click on the small computer with the purple x to uninstall it from your computer.
Note: Once your computer video adapter card is uninstalled it will ask you to reinstall the driver ignore that warning.
Before we proceed with step 2 make sure you follow this procedure
Turn off computer and disconnect the power cable from the electrical outlet – Very important (Security) Open Computer Case, Discharge your Static Electricity – And how I do that? Easy touch your computer case with both hands for about 40 sec and you’re free to touch the internal circuits.
Step 2: Open the case to install the new card whether is the AGP card or PCI card install it now.
Step 3: Turn on your computer and wait until it recognize the new video card make sure the video card recognized is the new one, insert the cd driver that came with the video card and wait until the drivers are completely installed. Once you finish installing the video card and drivers go back and repeat Step 1 to see if your new video card appears under Display Adapters if yes it means you are all set.
If Windows XP, Vista or whatever operating system you have install ask you to reinstall the old video card driver follow Step 1 again and locate the uknown device and disable it by clicking on the small computer with the zero.
